Sjuøyane archipelago

Der Sjuøyane ist der nördlichste Teil Spitzbergens. Wie der Name schon sagt, handelt es sich um eine Gruppe von sieben Inseln: Phippsøya, Martensøya, Parryøya, Nelsonøya, Waldenøya, Tavleøya and Rossøya.

Das Bild zeigt die Ansicht von vor dem  Ukiksnosa (Höhe_ 220 m), einem kleinen Berg auf der Insel Phippsøya. Phippsøya ist 11 km lang und die größte Insel Spitzbergens. Sie ist nach Constantine John Phipps, 2. Baron Mulgrave (1744–1792), einem britischen Marineoffizier und Leiter der Expedition nach Spitzbergen im Jahr 1773 mit den Bombenschiffen „Racehorse“ und „Carcass“, benannt, wobei er selbst das Kommando über die „Racehorse“ innehatte. Im Hintergrund links ist die kleine Insel Tavleøya und rechts die Insel Martensøya zu sehen.

Sjuøyane archipelago is the northernmost part of Svalbard. As the name implies, this is a group of seven islands: Phippsøya, Martensøya, Parryøya, Nelsonøya, Waldenøya, Tavleøya and Rossøya.

Die Insel Martensøya (von Südwesten aus gesehen) ist die östlichste Insel des Archipels.
Martensøya island island (viewed from the southwest) is the easternmost of the archepelago.

Die Insel Parryøya (von Nordosten aus gesehen) ist die südlichste der drei grossen Inseln in Sjuøane und nach Sir William Edward Parry benannt, einem englischen Marineoffizier und Polarforscher, der 1827 eine Expedition nach Spitzbergen leitete. Gesamtfläche ca. 20 Quadratkilometer, höchster Punkt Øykollen ca. 400 m ü.d.M.

Parryøya island (viewed from the northeast) is the southernmost of the three large island in Sjuøy;ane and known after Sir William Edward Parry, English naval officer and polar explorer, who headed expedition to Spitzbergen in 1827. Total area ca. 20 square kilometres, highest point Øykollen ca. 400 m.a.s.l.

Der Sjuøyane-Archipel von Süden aus gesehen. Die kleine Insel links ist Nelsonøya. Im Hintergrund links von der großen Insel Parryøya (im Vordergrund) ist in der Dunstglocke auch die flache Insel Tavløya zu erkennen, und hinter der rechten Seite von Parryøya liegt ein Teil der Insel Phippsøya. Nelsonøya ist eine kleine Insel nördlich von Nordaustlandet in Spitzbergen (Svalbard), benannt nach dem britischen Admiral Horatio Nelson, der als junger Kadett an der Phipps-Expedition von 1773 teilnahm.

Nelsonøya is a small island north of Nordaustlandet in Spitzbergen (Svalbard), named after the British Admiral Horatio Nelson, who participated as a young cadet in the Phipps Expedition of 1773.
